National Recognition Awards

The Australian Foster Care Association (AFCA) is the peak body of state and territory foster care associations and represents Australian foster, relative and kinship carers and the children and young people in their care.

We encourage you to nominate any eligible carers within your organisation for a Recognition Award.

AFCA has been funded by the Commonwealth Department of Families, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaCSIA) to sponsor the 2007 National Foster Carer Recognition Awards.  These Awards will be presented at the National Foster Care Conference in Melbourne on 6th October.

The purpose of the National Foster Carer Recognition Awards is to:

• acknowledge specific carers for their work and commitment over a long period of time;
• provide public recognition for the work of all foster, relative and kinship carers;
• motivate carers to continue in their work through public recognition;
• raise the awareness of the work of foster, relative and kinship carers for the general public through media coverage of the Awards; and
• model best practice in community/Government partnerships to the sector nationally.

The Awards are open to any foster, relative or kinship carer (past or present) in Australia who:

• has 20 years or more cumulative caring for children in the out of home care system;
• is of good character (referees, departmental certifications and police checks are required);
• consents to the nomination by signing the nomination form; and
• provides full accompanying paperwork with the completed nomination form.

If you wish to nominate one of your carers, please complete the nomination form attached and return it by 15 August 2007 to the address below or email  hfalconer@medleywillows.com.au

Please photocopy the nomination form if more forms are required. (Click here to download a nomination form)
