I am delighted to invite you to attend the National Foster Care Conference to be held in Melbourne in October 2007. 
The conference theme of “Fostering Change” reflects the many changes we are witnessing in the way we care for children and young people. This year Victoria implemented the Children, Youth and Families Act 2005.
The legislation, policy and new approaches to caring for children and young people are making a significant difference to the lives of children and young people in our care.
In Victoria, the Department of Human Services supports foster care families together with Community Service Organisations. Victoria is not alone as we face the future of caring for the most vulnerable children and young people in our society. One of the ways we support Victorian carers is by supporting this conference. The conference brings together carers and workers from across Australia to share their views, ideas and the joys and challenges of caring.
The conference will no doubt be stimulating and challenging. This is a time to listen and share new ideas, meet new people and renew old acquaintances. Most importantly it is a time to think about the way we care for vulnerable children and young people and celebrate the significant difference we can make to their lives.
